Navigating and Organizing the Board
As your project grows, the kanban board accumulates cards across multiple columns. Atelier provides tools to filter what you see, reorder tasks to set priorities, and navigate directly to source files when you need to review details. Use these features to keep your board manageable and find information quickly.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- Atelier extension installed with the kanban board accessible
- At least a few cards on the board (todos, plans, or tasks)
Filtering Cards
Section titled “Filtering Cards”-
Open the Atelier kanban board.
-
Locate the filter options in the toolbar at the top of the board.
-
Click the Type filter to show only specific card types.
You can filter by Todo, Plan, or Task. This is useful when you want to focus on just your backlog ideas, see only high-level plans, or review individual tasks without distraction.
-
Select a filter option.
The board updates immediately to show only cards matching your selection. Cards that don’t match are hidden but not deleted.
-
Clear the filter to show all cards again.
Click the filter option a second time or select an “All” option to reset the view.
Reordering Tasks
Section titled “Reordering Tasks”-
Locate a task card you want to reposition within its column.
Tasks within the Planning column can be reordered to indicate which work should be picked up first.
-
Click and drag the task card to a new position within the same column.
-
Release the card at the desired location.
The card order is preserved, and Claude Code will see tasks in this order when selecting work. Placing higher-priority tasks at the top of the column signals which work should happen first.
Opening Source Files
Section titled “Opening Source Files”-
Click on any card to open the sidebar.
-
In the sidebar, click the Open File button.
The source file opens in a new editor tab. For todos, this opens TODO.md at the relevant line. For plans, this opens the plan’s markdown file in
~/.claude/plans/. For tasks, this opens the task’s JSON file in~/.claude/tasks/{task-group}/. -
Alternatively, click the card ID at the top of any card (such as “TASK-0001”).
This also opens the source file directly without needing to open the sidebar first.
-
Review or edit the file as needed.
Any changes you save are detected by Atelier, and the board updates automatically to reflect the new content.
Viewing Card Relationships
Section titled “Viewing Card Relationships”-
Click on a plan card to open the sidebar.
-
Review the list of tasks that implement this plan.
The sidebar shows all tasks associated with the plan, their current status, and their progress.
-
Click on a task card that shows a blocked indicator.
-
Review the blocking relationship in the sidebar.
The sidebar displays which task is blocking this one and its current status. You can click through to the blocking task to understand what work needs to finish first.
-
Hover over a plan card on the board.
The board highlights all task cards that belong to this plan, making it easy to see the relationship visually without opening the sidebar.
You now know how to filter the board, prioritize work by reordering tasks, navigate to source files, and understand how cards relate to each other. These tools help you stay oriented as your project grows and multiple plans and tasks accumulate on the board.
